  • Teachers are encouraged to do this as a class activity. However, children are also more than welcome to create their card designs at home and have a parent or guardian submit.

  • If you’d like to bring your entry in person, the front desk staff will be happy to accept your entry. Whistlestop is located at 930 Tamalpais Ave, San Rafael, CA 94901 and is open M-F, 9:00am –5:00pm.
  • If mailing, please indicate “Holiday Card Contest” when addressing the envelope.

Design Guidelines:

  • When designing the card, keep in mind what Whistlestop is all about: making sure that people of all ages and abilities have what they need to be happy and healthy.
  • You may want to think about an older adult in your life such as a grandparent, and what they mean to you, or how you picture a community where kids and older adults can spend time together and learn from each other.
  • We strive to be inclusive of all faiths and traditions. Winning cards will not be biased toward one particular faith or tradition, but about the holiday spirit of community, peace, togetherness, inclusion, love and goodwill.

Evaluation Process:

  • Every card design will be evaluated by a specially selected team here at Whistlestop.
  • Four finalists and one winner will be selected.

Prizes:

  • The four finalists and one winner will be invited to a special meeting with Whistlestop CEO Joe O’Hehir and a member of San Rafael City Council, where we will take your picture, offer praise for your designs on video, and present you with an honorary award.
  • The four finalists and one winner will be announced in a press release and will also be featured in our Whistlestop Express newsletter, which has a monthly distribution of 24,000.
  • The winning design will be used as our official 2019 holiday card!
